Description

After flashing, the FTU language screen came up and I decided to scroll through the list and check it out.  I found a few missing fonts.  The language just below Japanese (attachment 1 [details] [diff] [review]) and the language just above Slovenian (attachment 2 [details] [diff] [review]) are missing.  When I select one of them, I noticed that button text and other text turns to boxes as well so this must be a missing font problem (attachment 3 [details] [diff] [review]).



Steps to Reproduce

1. Flash device.
2. On FTU language screen, scroll down
3. 

Expected Results

All language fonts should be there.


Actual Results

Missing the font for the language below Japanese and the one just above Slovenian.

Axel - Is this a bad Gaia encoding problem or a language-specific problem? Generally - What would cause something like this?

Are any of the locales here affected here needed for 1.3 or 1.4?

The affected languages are khmer (km) and sinhala (si).

I suspect we don't have the right fonts, or they're not flashed.

CCing my font friends.

I can't make statements on the triage importance. This will likely affect web content, too.

Bug 815577 asks for a Khmer font to be added; we should try to move forward with that.

I'd suggest filing a separate bug to add a Sinhalese font; we'll need to look at what's available and decide what to include.

Talked to the Sinhalese community and they suggest LKLUG font. Added https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=981364 to for Sinhalese font.

per bug 982587 comment 1 : 1.3T blocking will depend on market; Joe assumes that tarako will need to support double byte. ni? styang to further confirm

styang, if it does please nom this as a 1.3T blocker.

Bug 982587 describes "two of the four languages" as showing missing-glyph squares -- what are the two specific languages concerned there?

I think the current ones being shown are Arabic and Simplified Chinese?  
I'm not 100 % sure since I can't see the languages.

We need to see if the device shipping places have the appropriate characters.

To save ROM size, we remove the fonts for testing. Will add it back once the regions/countries to launch are confirmed.

Based on comment 13, I removed Tarako from the subject. 

I flashed 1.4 on Peak and only found one is missing. That is what we saw in 2014-03-06-20-16-45.png. Anyone knows what language is missing?

That's Sinhala. You can reverse engineer those from locales/languages_all.json, we're showing them in that order in the UI. Also, the number of dooblidooes matches.
